Copper Square Traffic Lady

Tips for week of Friday, August 15 through Thursday, August 21

I’m here to make your visit and parking experience fast and easy. So visit often; we’ll be updating this information faster than you can say “rail installation and signalization!”

When you come right down to it, the Traffic Lady is very much a homebody. After a long day of guiding visitors to and from downtown, she enjoys nothing more than kicking back with a hot bath, scented candles and some soulful rock ‘n roll music. So, she was ecstatic when she learned that the Gold Canyon Company would be holding its annual convention August 14-16 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The focus on hearth and home continues this weekend with the 17th Annual Arizona Home and Building Expo, which returns for a three-day stint at the Phoenix Convention Center. Last year, the signature show drew in excess of 27,000 attendees to visit more than 700 exhibits focusing on remodeling, interior design, home improvements and home-building products and services. With such largesse, the Traffic Lady is certain she will be able to find those traffic light-colored curtains she's been coveting since last year's show. Doors open Friday from noon until 6:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am through 6:00 pm and again on Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

The good times keep rolling in on Monday, when Melissa Etheridge brings her distinctive and award-winning brand of rock to the Dodge Theatre starting at 8:00 pm. The following day, the Western division-leading D-backs return home for three games each against the San Diego Padres and the Florida Marlins at Chase Field. The games from Tuesday through Friday start at 6:40 pm, with a special fireworks show Friday night after the game.

The Traffic Lady wants you to enjoy all the great things downtown has to offer during the week ahead. So she urges you to check out her traffic tips to ensure your visit is relaxing, safe and speedy. She also invites you visit the Copper Square Event Calendar to find out about the latest happenings and to check out the nifty new Interactive Map, which will help you quickly and easily chart your course to downtown fun.

Helpful Tips

Best Way to Get to the Game? Take 7th Avenue!

• 7th Ave. is the best kept secret. Yes, AVENUE. The Traffic Lady, City of Phoenix, Diamondbacks and Suns all agree – 7th Ave. is the recommended route to beat the crowds and event traffic. Take the I-17, I-10 and SR 51 and Loop 202 (via I-10) to 7th Ave, head to Jefferson and proceed eastbound to access convenient parking.

• If you are entering the area from the south, take 7th St. to Lincoln. Head west on Lincoln and north on any of the cross streets for parking.

• If you are coming from the east, take the I-10 and exit Washington. Head west on Washington into the downtown area. Another option for drivers on Washington is to take 12th or 16th streets north to Van Buren, and head west into downtown.

Come early! You can park and grab a bite to eat or drink at one of over 90 restaurants and bars.
